Burkina Faso is one of the countries in the Sahel belt that since the 70s have suffered from a chronic lack of water due to drought and processes of environmental degradation.
The Oudalan, the area of our intervention, is located in the north of Burkina Faso, on the southern edges of the Sahara, on the border with Mali and Niger, an area affected by the desertification process and characterized by frequent droughts.
The lack of water forces women and animals to travel many kilometers to draw water for the family and to water the animals.
The Ticino association Deserto Verde also took action against desertification. In 2003, it started a programme of land reclamation in the Oudalan region, in the northern region of Burkina, sowing degraded fields worked with the Vallerani System.
